We just want to educate!

Hundreds of educators, parents and community members met yesterday in Santa Fe from across the state.  We came together to protest Governor's Martinez's attempts to increase the effects of high stakes, high stress standardized testing in our class rooms.

We stood up for Public Education!

Spoke our truth to power!

They heard us from the street and from our testimony!

We do want reform, but we want real reform.

Real reform, from inception through implementation, includes the knowledge, experience and expertise of teachers.

Real reform involves a partnership between teachers and policymakers to ensure that policy has practical application and not unintended consequences.

Real reform includes the resources to properly implement.

Real reform beyond 19th Century, factory-model education assumptions and school practices and is based on sound research about student learning and state-of-the-art pedagogical strategies.

Real reform takes into account the link between poverty and learning and includes the social safety nets necessary for the education reforms to be successful for all students.

Real reform honors the sophistication of today’s students, and does not try to retrofit ideas and practices from the past and impose them on the youth of today.

We do want to reform teacher and principal evaluation.  But, we want it done right!
