AFT New Mexico releases Brian Sanderoff poll on education cuts, closing corporate tax loopholes, rolling back tax cuts for wealthiest New Mexicans. Scientific poll results demonstrate registered voters overwhelmingly oppose any more student value cuts and education cuts.

Highlights of Sanderoff's Education Partner Poll of 400 registered voters:

  • 43 percent are likely not to vote for legislators who cut education funding.
  • 49 percent support rolling back tax cuts for wealthiest New Mexicans earning $295K or more a year.
  • 61 percent support closing loopholes for corporations that don’t pay taxes on profits they earn in NM.
  • 44 percent support raising gross receipts taxes.
  • 70 percent support raising taxes on tobacco, alcohol.
  • 81 percent say lawmakers must balance the deficit without cutting public school funding.
  • 88 percent say lawmakers must balance the deficit without cutting teacher, employee pay.
  • 55 percent support using more of the $7 billion Permanent School Fund to support education funding.
