Happy New Years! I hope that you are enjoying a peaceful winter break. The new year brings a great opportunity for hope and change. In 2013, you, along with tens-of-thousands of educators across the state, parents, students and community members spoke loudly and clearly of the need to take back time for teaching, joy of learning and professionalism in education. (See news coverage of Nov 20 action and Dec. 3rd-10th bus tour). And, over 3,000 people signed the petition to support public education. If you haven't signed yet and/or have friends and family who you would like to invite to sign, click here.
Now, in 2014, it is time to turn our words into action. On January 20th, join educators and community members to reclaim the promise for public education and present our vision for a strong public education system. I invite you to join AFT National President Randi Weingarten in Santa Fe on January 20th for a press conference and action event. Sign up here to get more information about the event.
Also stay tuned for more information about the upcoming legislative session. AFT NM will be sending out regular email updates. Remember to save the date for the February 15th Rally and Lobby Day at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe.
I hope this new year is filled with joy and happiness for your family as well as a better and brighter future for public education and our students. I look forward to seeing you soon in Santa Fe.
In Unity,
AFT NM President Stephanie Ly
